Evolution of air sterilization - plasma.

If the recent covid-19 global pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we are still ill-prepared against pathogens. Masks, HEPA, and hand sanitizers: are they still enough?

The problem with filters – mask and HEPA.

HEPA can only capture above 0.3µm

HEPA filters are commonly known as filters with the highest filtration grade efficiency. But as effective as HEPA filters are, they are limited to capturing particulate matter and pathogens that are above 0.3µm in size. Many types of bacteria and viruses are far below that.

Does not actually kill pathogens

Filters – including ones used in masks – only collect pathogens. They do not not destroy them. When pathogens are only collected, they are susceptible to regrowth. In humidity, HEPA filters may retain enough moisture to enable bacteria or mold to grow (Seong et. al., 2014).1

Recirculated into the air

What makes matters worse is that air circulation can cause mold spores, bacteria, and viruses to be released from the filter back into the air stream, a process known as “reentertainment” (Jankowska et. Al, 1999).So, eventually, you’ll be breathing infected air again.

This is how the PLAMEDI Air Mini works.

1. Cold plasma generator

PLAMEDI Air Mini is the 1st handheld device to emit millions of plasma ions, propelled into the air by a special-grade BLDC blower fan and generated by Plabio’s  proprietary PB-7 plasma module. All you need to do is turn it on.

2. Air and surface disinfection

The hundreds of millions of plasma ions emitted into the air react with membranes and protein shells of pathogens (virus, bacteria, etc) that consist of hydrogen (H+),where OH- plasma ions ultimately destroy the pathogens.

OH- + H+ = H2O  -> Sterilization.

4. Deodorization

Plasma ions reacts to and destroys odor causing gas compounds such as ammonia. Furthermore, plasma is effective against toxic gas such as VOCs.

3. Particle capture

Plasma ions use electrostatic attraction to stick to particulate matter, ultimately weighing the matter down to ground  for cleaning.
